Jason Kenneth “Boddhi” Joiner
Jason's passion for art began at the age of 10, when he would spend hours drawing cartoons and action figures. As he grew into his teenage years, he focused on drawing muscular bodybuilders using pencil or ink. After completing high school in Hawaii, he pursued a degree in art from Seattle Art Institute before eventually teaching art classes at a private school in Honolulu.
His intricate and detailed artwork often led people to ask if he did tattoos, so he decided to purchase tattoo supplies and practice on himself and his mother, Kathleen. He went on to work in various tattoo shops across Colorado Springs, San Diego, Seattle, and Lexington, Kentucky.
In 2007, Jason was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer and given only 6-18 months to live by his doctors. However, he defied the odds and lived for another 4 years. During this time, he worked tirelessly with a burning desire to leave his mark on as many people as possible. Sadly, he passed away on October 31, 2011, leaving behind his mother, Kathleen Baumgardner, older brother Jeremy Joiner, younger sister Rachel Joiner, and beloved daughter Maya who was just 9 years old at the time.
